The Award-Winning Wine:

Manzoni Estate Vineyard 2006 Family Estate Syrah

Reason for Reviewing:
Manzoni Estate Vineyard 2006 Family Estate Syrah earned Double Gold honors at the recently completed 2009 Florida State Fair International Wine Competition.

Noteworthy:
They have chosen to grow grapes on California's cool coastal mountains, ridges, and hillsides and benchlands. Here, they strive to give you the richest, most intense flavors with a unique and memorable character.

Winery Notes:
This wine has brilliant red color with pronounce northern Rhone-like ground white pepper with soft tannins. Briary Bing Cherry and wild blackberry aroma accentuate the nose, while a moderate amount of caramel is evident in the flavor, a result of new French barrels. This wine will hold its own with intensely flavored dishes such as stews, grilled meats and strong cheeses.

AlaWine Notes:
Manzoni Estate Vineyard 2006 Family Estate Syrah pours to the glass as a very dark purple-garnet color. Ripe blackberry and blackcurrant aromas, in a leathery context, fill the nose. Vibrant berry fruits flood the palate in a mouth-watering opening and persist through a lingering finish spiced with pepper and oak.

Bottom Line:
Manzoni Estate Vineyard 2006 Family Estate Syrah a big wine, full of ripe fruit and a solid finish. A great wine to go with grilling. Suggested retail price is $35. Overall composite score: 92 points.
